The Integrative Neurophysiology Laboratory focuses on developing new pharmacological approaches to treat chronic inflammatory and degenerative disorders associated with tissue remodelling and inflammation. The laboratory uses animal models of liver fibrosis induced by toxins and sterile brain inflammation in FUS mice. They use small molecules, particularly inhibitors of hyaluronan synthase 4, methyl umbelliferone, and RNA interference for reprogramming of monocyte-derived macrophages and microglial cells. The final goal is cell therapy based on autologous macrophage polarization and reimplantation to the sites of inflammation and tissue remodelling and regeneration.
