Associate Professor Ekaterina Khrameeva from the Skoltech Bio Center won the Moscow Government Award for Young Scientists. The researcher received recognition in the Biology nomination for a series of works on the development of new methods for analyzing genome architecture in the human brain.
“Of course, I am pleased that the research area that my group is engaged in has been recognized as important and supported. Previously, experimental methods did not allow obtaining data on DNA packaging in human brain cells due to the difficulties of working with such samples. The first experimental data appeared quite recently, during the last year or two, including those published by our group. Thanks to them, we can now study — and are studying — the mechanisms of various pathologies, such as mental disorders, neurodegenerative, and oncological diseases related to the regulatory role of genome architecture,” shared Ekaterina Khrameeva.
The Moscow Government annually approves 50 awards in two fields with 11 nominations each for achieving outstanding results in fundamental and applied scientific research in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, and humanities, as well as for developing and implementing new technologies that contribute to improving the efficiency of activities in the real sector of the economy and the social sphere of Moscow. Awards are given to PhD students, researchers, specialists, and candidates of sciences under the age of 36, and doctors of sciences under the age of 40.
