Diving into the mysteries of space weather: from solar flares to geomagnetic storms, and services

The Skoltech Center for Digital Engineering is hosting author Tatiana Podladchikova's course “Data Analysis for Space Weather”.

Tatiana Podladchikova, Director of the Center for Digital Engineering at Skoltech and head of the Space Weather Laboratory.

«This course offers an exhilarating journey through the cosmos with a captivating exploration of Space Weather and cutting-edge data analysis techniques. It provides an opportunity to explore the depths of remote sensing multi-wavelength image data processing as it studies sunspots, flares, and coronal mass ejections. It delves into 3D reconstructions of solar phenomena using epipolar geometry and includes forecasting of geomagnetic storms and polar auroras. Additionally, it examines how space weather impacts everything from satellites to power systems, and from human spaceflight to pipelines. With practical applications spanning across various disciplines, this course serves as a gateway to a universe of possibilities and a broad range of interdisciplinary applications, encouraging a deep engagement with the subject matter».

The course sessionsare held three times per week throughout November and December, with teaching assistance provided by PhD student Zaina Abu Sha'ar.
