Irina Gayda highlighted Skoltech’s active work on assessing climate risks

Irina Gayda, the deputy director of the Energy Transition Center, spoke at the annual Sustainable Development Forum hosted May 15 by Vedomosti. She highlighted Skoltech’s active work on assessing climate risks for various industries with artificial intelligence models and developing technologies to mitigate these risks. Irina emphasized the importance of conducting accurate financial assessments of potential damages (currently underestimated) and establishing cross-industry and interagency cooperation for monitoring climate risks and adapting to them. Currently, there is a lack of methodology for assessing the financial consequences of physical climate change risks, and there is a need for clarification of the responsibilities of various parties, including insurance companies, for damage mitigation. All of this requires further clarification from regulators.
