Russia’s potential for diversifying exports with liquefied natural gas

In a recent Itek.ru column (RUS), Sergey Kapitonov, an analyst at the Energy Transition Center, discussed Russia’s potential for diversifying exports with liquefied natural gas. Sergey sees LNG as a path to diversification, reaching markets where pipelines fall short. However, he warns of significant hurdles. Primarily technological, as LNG production requires the advanced technology and equipment Russia doesn’t currently have, as well as major investments. Besides that, Russia is facing stiff competition from established players. In his analysis, Sergey balances the potential benefits of LNG exports against the complex logistical and financial challenges, calling for a well-thought-out approach to capitalize on this opportunity.
