September 4, 2024, Vladivostok. The petrochemical company SIBUR and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of the climate agenda. The document was signed by Alexey Ponomarev, Senior Vice President of Skoltech for Industrial Relations, and Alexey Kozlov, member of the Management Board, Managing Director of SIBUR, during the Eastern Economic Forum.
Within the framework of the agreement, the parties plan to work together to find innovative solutions to increase energy and resource efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions both at SIBUR's production facilities and in processes and projects not directly related to the company's production activities. The parties also plan to use artificial intelligence models to solve problems in the field of sustainable development.
"The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology is working with the sustainable development agenda in almost all of its research centers. Priority areas are climate risk assessment using models of physically informed artificial intelligence, technology for CO2 capture and burial in geological formations, post-lithium energy storage, smart grid management, biofuels, new materials for energy and resource efficiency. We are convinced that cooperation with SIBUR will contribute to the creation of environmentally friendly solutions that will allow our country to compete in the global green technology market," said Irina Gayda, Deputy Director of the Skoltech Project Center for Energy Transition.
"SIBUR, as one of the leaders in the field of sustainable development, is constantly working on the implementation of technological and other solutions aimed at increasing the company's resource efficiency and reducing the climatic impact. In 2023 alone, we have reduced direct greenhouse gas emissions by 25%, and today we have 8 diverse climate projects and more than 3 million verified carbon units in our portfolio. Partnership with Skoltech will allow us to work out innovative solutions that can become best practices not only for us, but also for other responsible companies," said Alexey Kozlov, Member of the Management Board, Managing Director of SIBUR.
