On May 22-23, Skoltech, in partnership with Sber, Rosatom, and Rostec, will host the “Frontiers of Progress” conference as part of the Moscow Week of Entrepreneurship. The event seeks to facilitate discussions on the obstacles that science and business face on the way to technological progress. The conference topics include artificial intelligence, energy conservation, photonics, advanced materials, and biotechnologies.
Modern science faces challenges not only within its fields, but also globally — how to make research results bring real benefits and contribute to breakthrough solutions that will change our lives for the better. An important element of the innovation environment is business, which transforms scientific achievements into commercial products for consumers.
“Universities of the modern model, including, as we believe, Skoltech, are following the path of combining science and business. As an Institute, we hear the demand of the industry and work towards creating the conditions for real breakthroughs and innovations that will benefit people. The “Frontiers of Progress” conference at Skoltech will become a platform for dialogue between representatives of scientific and industrial organizations on the most pressing issues, from artificial intelligence and energy to biomedicine and materials of the future. This format enables science and business to keep up with the actual needs of society, including those of consumers. We invite representatives from science, business, and government — anyone who is interested in new technological projects and opportunities for effective cooperation is welcome to join in,” said Alexander Kuleshov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Skoltech President.
The first day of the conference will focus on artificial intelligence, photonics, and energy technologies. Participants will discuss how to use neural networks in public administration effectively, which solutions can provide energy-efficient multimodal data processing for industrial monitoring systems, what applied benefits optical computing can offer, which university would be an ideal partner for the industry, and much more.
On the second day, participants will learn about the latest achievements in biomedicine, discuss how to ensure a balance of supply and demand in the market of domestic advanced technologies, and join a plenary discussion on the interaction of government, business, and science with the participation of Maxim Oreshkin, the deputy head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Igor Shuvalov, the chairman of the “VEB.RF” state development corporation, Viktor Vekselberg, the chairman of the Skoltech Board of Trustees, and Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom State Corporation.
During both days, conference participants will also learn about the scientific results at a poster session and observe technological advancements developed at Skoltech, including a production technology for the first Russian 4G/5G base station, photonic integrated circuits for high-frequency signal processing in telecom equipment, and much more. The guided tours of Skoltech laboratories will provide a glimpse into how Russia’s exclusive NMC and LFP cathode materials are developed, where the world’s first ultrafast optical polariton transistor was created, and how scientists sensitized prosthetics.
