On March 3, just before Antonio Vivaldi’s birthday, the Svetlanov Hall of the Moscow International House of Music will host the “Vivaldi Ball”—a unique blend of classical music and artificial intelligence. Researchers from Skoltech’s AI Center will present “The Fifth Season”, an AI-generated continuation of Vivaldi’s famous cycle The Four Seasons.
Inspired by their successful collaboration with the Opera Foundation, the team adapted AI-generated compositions to match Vivaldi’s Baroque style. The result is a remarkable fusion: the signature of the great composer remains, yet the music takes on a modern dimension.
“For this project, together with Skoltech Master’s student Vladislav Gromadsky, we generated musical pieces and adapted them to fit Vivaldi’s Baroque style. We aimed to preserve the atmosphere of the era while allowing AI to ‘improvise.’ The result is unusual—Vivaldi’s essence is unmistakable, yet it sounds contemporary,” says Milena Gazdiyeva, Research Engineer at Skoltech AI Center.
The State Kremlin Orchestra, conducted by Honored Artist of Russia Igor Shevernev, will bring this experiment to life on stage. The program will also feature two rare Vivaldi concertos—one for viola and one for cello—performed in a unique arrangement for wind orchestra.
