Skoltech will present its technological developments at the Innoprom International Industrial Exhibition in Yekaterinburg. At the “Leaders of Industrial Renewal” stand, attendees will learn about two key technologies: an alternative laboratory system based on microfluidic chips and the highly sensitive “e-nose” sensory device.
The Labadvance Skoltech-born startup specializes in developing microengineering devices that enable sample preparation and research within miniature microfluidic systems. It remains the only company of this kind in the CIS countries. Its product development focuses on the oil and gas sector, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, and small-tonnage chemical production. In 2024, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced investments in the project, presenting a report to the President of Russia that emphasized the strategic importance of the company’s developments for the national economy. Labadvance is currently negotiating partnerships with Middle Eastern countries.
The “e-nose” — a Skoltech innovation — mimics biological olfactory systems through a matrix of 17 cross-sensitive sensors integrated into a compact silicon chip. The device can be trained for various applications: analyzing food materials and plastic quality, detecting hazardous and explosive substances (including hard-to-identify components), and more. It can significantly enhance security systems at major public events, industrial facilities, transportation hubs, and other critical sites. The research team is concurrently advancing materials science, electronics, and data analysis algorithms — a unique combination of expertise in Russia for this scientific domain.
The Innoprom exhibition will be held from July 7 to 10 at the Yekaterinburg-Expo international exposition center.
