A PhD student meets coursework requirements, performs research work, and prepares a thesis for the defense in accordance with the Individual Study Plan during the doctoral education at Skoltech.

PhD students are expected to produce an original PhD thesis, publish the results of their independent research in peer-reviewed academic journals, and present them at reputable international conferences.
The PhD student takes courses at the doctoral level at Skoltech to meet the coursework requirements. A plan for coursework should be developed in consultation with the supervisor following a PhD program curriculum (year of admission 2023).
The research is the key part of the doctoral studies. It is expected that the PhD student starts his/her thesis research at Skoltech immediately after the start of the program and devotes to it most of his/her time within the doctoral study.
The results of the thesis research are a high quality thesis, publications of research papers in peer-reviewed academic journals, presentations at reputable international conferences, and applications for grants and patents.
