Dmitry Medvedev visited the Energy Center’s laboratory headed by Distinguished Professor Artem Abakumov, the director of the center. The laboratory team presented their latest research in the field of metal-ion battery materials, as well as a pilot production facility with a capacity of 10 tons of materials per year, which will not only confirm the efficiency of the new technology, but also lay the groundwork for the commercial production of the next-generation batteries for electric vehicles, portable devices, and industrial applications.

Dmitry Medvedev visited Skoltech’s exposition zone featuring a new technology for the production of Russia’s first 4G/5G base station, which Skoltech has successfully transferred to the industry. A batch of 200 base stations is already being deployed by a mobile operator.

“I have just been shown a number of interesting solutions,” Medvedev said in his opening remarks at the meeting of the Skolkovo Foundation’s board of trustees. “I hope that all of them will be turned into real products. Some of them are still at the design or patenting stage, while others are already being produced, mostly in small batches. Of particular importance is the 5G project, which was implemented with the direct involvement of Skolkovo and Skoltech.” Among the “interesting solutions” mentioned by Medvedev are:

●       A real-time digital holography and interferometry system for fundamental optical research and applications, such as optical tweezers, free-space optical communication lines, and lidar measurements.

●      A microfluidic chip-based software and hardware system for high-pressure, high-temperature research in the oil industry and optimized oil recovery.

●      An AI-powered multimodal data analysis and monitoring platform already used by the Ministry of Emergency Situations to predict the spread of wildfires, ice movement, and water levels in flooded areas.

●      A software and hardware system for diagnosing the condition of overhead power lines, taking timely anti-icing measures and optimizing repair and maintenance costs.

●     Lightweight structures based on honeycomb cores with uniquely high bending and corrosion resistance that can be used in construction, engineering facilities, aerospace, machinery, etc.

●      Polymer profiles manufactured using low-cost, energy-efficient pultrusion technology that display high strength, low weight, corrosion resistance, and durability.

●      A hyperspectral camera for evaluating infantile hemangiomas – benign vascular tumors.

●     Coatings for implantable medical devices that ensure sustained release of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and other drugs.

The tour of Skoltech was organized for Dmitry Medvedev as part of the meeting of the Skolkovo Foundation’s board of trustees.
